After 10 years with Philips Lighting in a variety of technical and general management functions in various intercontinental locations, Menko joined Lumileds Lighting in 1999 at the start of the expanded JV as a member of the executive staff in Silicon Valley. During his Philips’ career, Menko held executive roles responsible for operations in Belgium, plant management in China and concluded as the GM/MD for Alpignano Lamps, global leader in appliance lighting headquartered in Italy.
At Lumileds, Menko transitioned from successfully growing the traffic signaling business as Business Unit Manager to building and leading a unique and diverse team for 4 years as Executive VP - New Business Development. This team aggressively developed new breakthrough markets that helped Lumileds become known as the market and technology leader for solid-state lighting solutions. Menko then transferred in early 2005 to Malaysia responsible for the fast growing Lumileds’ Asian operations which included manufacturing, integral supply chain and all sub-con activities.
Menko co-founded Xicato in July 2007.
After 13 years at Hewlett Packard in a variety of engineering and business functions, which included starting the IrDA transceiver (point-point wireless communication) business, Mark became a founding member of the initial Lumileds joint venture (Hewlett Packard and Philips) based in the Netherlands (Jan'97) in which he represented Hewlett Packard and was responsible for Manufacturing and Marketing.
During his time at Lumileds, he has successfully established and cultivated numerous global multi-level partnerships, developed new markets and established industry standards to facilitate pervasive adoption of this disruptive technology.
When Lumileds expanded the joint venture (Agilent and Philips) in 1999, Mark transitioned back to its new headquarters in San Jose, CA as the VP Business Development and Strategic Marketing.
In this role, Mark developed several new win-big businesses (traffic lights and displays) leveraging Lumileds' leading positions in High-Flux density LEDs.
Mark co-founded Xicato in July 2007.
Gerard Harbers co-founded Xicato in July of 2007, serving as Chief Technology Officer.
Prior to Xicato, Gerard held various technical and management positions at Philips Research Laboratories, Philips Lighting, and Lumileds.
From 1986, at Philips Research, Gerard designed and developed various optical test systems for testing parts used in optical recording and consumer electronics.
After joining Philips Lighting in 1996 as Manager for the Optical Design Group, Gerard led the design and development of LED illumination systems.
In 2000, Gerard joined Lumileds Lighting focused on system design and pioneered LED Backlighting for large area LCD displays.
He was the first in the world to demonstrate a high-power edge-lit RGB LED 18" LCD Monitor at the SID 2000 Conference.
Gerard's novel high power LED system designs included optimized lighting solutions for many new solid-state lighting applications such as
street lights, traffic signals, automotive headlights, signage and contour lighting, and LCD backlights.
These designs were the basis for launching several new businesses within Lumileds.
Gerard's expertise in this field has led to numerous publications and invited talks.
Gerard's role at Lumileds culminated as the Advanced Labs Display Systems Manager in which he led the team in breakthrough designs for etendue limited micro-display projection systems.
He currently has 22 issued US patents, and 32 pending US patent applications.
After 10 years at Philips Lighting in a variety of business development and sales roles within the UK national sales organization, Roger moved to the Philips Lighting headquarters in Eindhoven, the Netherlands to lead a variety of successful strategic lighting programs. Roger then transitioned his focus to primarily solid state lighting where he managed a European team that explored business possibilities for new lighting technologies. Roger's final three years at Philips were in the global lighting applications department where he specified solid state lighting product roadmaps. In this role, Roger worked closely with key specifiers/lighting architects in an iterative process testing new concepts and features in both Europe and America. After a 20 year rewarding career at Philips, Roger joined Xicato in February 2008 as a key member of the management team.
