The Xicato Spot Module:
Light quality for life.
      Consistent color appearance for life
      Faithful color rendering for life
      Perfect uniformity for life
From concept through the life of the installation, Xicato remains the same.

Consistent color appearance
Xicato modules are available in a range of Color Temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K. Each is targeted exactly on the Black Body Locus for perfectly natural white light. Each has a very tight color point conformity, with a 1 x 2 MacAdam ellipse tolerance, outperforming the ANSI C78.377 standard which equates to a 7 ellipse tolerance. LED binning becomes a thing of the past.

Faithful color rendering
With the Artist Series, carefully controlling both the LED and phosphor specification, a CRI of Ra over 95 is achieved, compared to a CRI of Ra over 80 with the standard range. Typically the Color Rendering Index evaluates only the first 8 pastel reference samples of the conventional CRI metric. The Artist Series is optimized to deliver excellent results for the more saturated and skin color samples of the CRI reference set. For the deep red R9 reference sample, a value of 96 has been achieved in the 2700K, 3000K and 3500K Artist Series. The R9 value exceeds 85 in the 4000K Artist Series. These results are on a par with halogen lamps and outperform other LED solutions as well as compact fluorescent and compact metal halide lamps.

Perfect uniformity
Halogen lamps and LED arrays can suffer from local variations of light over a surface due to non-uniform illuminance of the source. The Xicato module has a uniform (Lambertian) emitting disk as source, which is reflected in a perfectly uniform beam with no multiple shadows or colour variations over angle. Beam widths from 10° to 60° are obtainable with most luminaire ranges.

Light quality for life
Our industry best light quality specification is (uniquely in the world of LEDs) sustained. Solid State Lighting carries the promise of long life but with many modules plastics, silicones and complex electronics bring compromise. Xicato modules are simple and rugged with a full aluminium shell and inset glass. All Xicato LED modules have an IP 66 rating. Our patented Corrected Cold Phosphor Technology™ ensures long term maintenance of the phosphor properties, contrary to phosphor on chip solutions. Extreme testing including WHTOL (85% RH, 85°C 1 hr switching cycle) underpins our lumen and color point maintenance claims.

Corrected Cold Phosphor Technology™

‘Corrected Cold Phosphor Technology’™ tunes the separated phosphor mix to counter any differences in wavelengths of the LEDs in the modules. This ensures a perfectly uniform, perfectly natural (centred on Black Body Locus) light that is produced to an industry best sustained color point stability (to 1 x 2 MacAdam ellipses, part to part).

Sustainability and cost of ownership
Sustainable lighting to Xicato means that light sources should be efficient, but importantly also be serviceable at end of life, be RoHS compliant and have a long life (both in terms of color maintenance and lumen maintenance). These attributes must sit alongside the starting point of perfect light quality for life.Payback periods are typically 2 to 3 years, a prime independently assessed example being the Chicago Field Museum installation’s 2.4 year payback as measured and documented by the United States DoE in their November 2010 Gateway report,"Demonstration Assessment of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Accent Lighting." Further, Xicato's LED modules were in 2010 selected as one of BuildingGreen's Top-10 products of the year by the editors of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec® and a runner-up in World Architectural News Product of the Year Awards in 2011. XSM based "Cool Ambiance" downlighters from Designed Architectural Lighting were used in the Building Design Partnership Limited designed PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP new 2011 London centre, the first major office in the UK to be awarded the BREEAM "Outstanding" rating.
