Berla was founded in 1930 as Berkes Lamps in Amsterdam. Here Grandma Berkes had a lampshade studio, where the company was in its infancy. In 1968, under the leadership of her sons, the company was renamed Berla. The leather and pig bladders used for the lampshades were treated according to a unique process. This was so successful that space in Amsterdam was too limited to meet the demand. And since many tanneries were located in Brabant, moving to the south of the country was a logical consequence.
In 1981 Berla BV continued as a production company with various agencies. Berla thus made their appearance as an important trading company for foreign luminaires within the Benelux.
In 2006 Sam & Géza Berkes followed in the footsteps of their father and uncle, by continuing the company as the well-known Berla BV. They mainly focused on their own products such as LED lighting in all conceivable forms.
On October 1, 2019, the lighting division of Insta became Instalighting GmbH. We develop and manufacture integrated lighting and control systems for modern architectural lighting. For OEMs, we offer individual lighting concepts with optimal process integration.
